Juventus’ Vlahovic suffers groin injury

Dusan Vlahovic will be sidelined until well into the new year after Juventus announced on Monday that the Serbia forward suffered a groin injury during their 2-1 victory over Cagliari.

The striker had to come off during the first half of Saturday’s match in Turin, and the club confirmed that medical tests on Monday showed “a high-grade injury” affecting a muscle in his left groin.

“Further medical consultations will be necessary to determine the most appropriate treatment,” the club added.

According to Italian media, Vlahovic is not expected to return to action before February.

So far this season, Vlahovic has found the net six times for Juventus — three goals in Serie A and three in the Champions League.

The 25-year-old recently regained his role as Juve’s first-choice centre-forward, just months after the club attempted to move him on in the summer, with his contract due to expire at the end of the season.

Under the leadership of former Italy boss Luciano Spalletti, Juventus currently sit seventh in Serie A, trailing leaders AC Milan and Napoli by five points.
