Slain Delta musician’s mother demands death penalty for officers involved

The mother of a 28-year-old musician, Oghenemine Ogidi, who was fatally shot by a police officer in Effurun, Delta State, has called for the officers involved in the incident to face the same fate as her son.

Ogidi, popularly known as Mene or OG Millan, was reportedly killed on April 26, 2026, by an Assistant Superintendent of Police identified as Nuhu Usman. The incident occurred shortly after he was arrested over allegations of attempting to send a parcel containing a firearm and ammunition.

The killing, captured in a viral video, showed the victim restrained and pleading before he was shot, sparking outrage across the country.

Speaking during an interview with News Central, his mother expressed grief and anger, insisting that justice must go beyond mere promises.

“Not that it will bring my child back, but I will know that Nigeria tried for me,” she said.

She called for a thorough investigation, extending responsibility beyond the officer who pulled the trigger.

“The driver who transported that package from Sapele to the park must be found, and the chairman of that park should also be held accountable,” she added.

Demanding accountability for all officers present at the scene, she said, “The four policemen there, including the one who handled the gun and the one who fired, should all be brought to book.”

She further insisted that the punishment should mirror the manner of her son’s death. “The way my son died, I want them to die like that,” she stated.

Following public outcry, the Delta State Police Command confirmed that the officer responsible for the shooting had been arrested and transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for further disciplinary action.

Police spokesperson Bright Edafe later disclosed during an appearance on Channels Television that the officer would be charged with murder.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Yemi Oyeniyi, described the incident as an extrajudicial killing and extended condolences to the bereaved family, assuring them that justice would be pursued.
