Slain Delta musician’s body not missing, autopsy underway — Police

The Delta State Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media that the body of a slain musician, Oghenemine Ogidi, is missing, clarifying that his remains are in a mortuary and awaiting autopsy.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, addressed the controversy on Friday following viral claims that the deceased’s family had been denied access to his body and that authorities could not account for its whereabouts.

Refuting the allegations, Edafe stated that the reports were false and misleading.

“His body is at the mortuary, and the family has been informed that they can see it whenever they wish,” he said.

He explained that due to the nature of the case, standard legal procedures must be followed before the body can be released.

“It is a case of suspected murder, so an autopsy is compulsory, and the family also agreed to this,” Edafe added.

Ogidi, a 28-year-old musician, was reportedly shot dead in Effurun, Delta State, in an incident that has drawn widespread public outrage.

The police confirmed that the officer allegedly responsible for the shooting, ASP Nuhu Usman, has been arrested and transferred to the Force Headquarters for further investigation and disciplinary measures.

Authorities also disclosed that the Inspector-General of Police has approved the dismissal of the officer, alongside plans for criminal prosecution.

The incident has intensified calls for accountability within the police force, as the command insists that due process will be followed in ensuring justice is served.
