S’Falcons’ Plumptre exposes fake account after false WAFCON exclusion post

Super Falcons defender, Ashleigh Plumptre, has exposed a fake social media account after a false post claimed she had been excluded from Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, warning fans to be wary of impersonators spreading misinformation online.

Plumptre said several fake accounts have been using her identity to circulate misleading statements, including a verified Facebook page that falsely announced she had been dropped from the national team squad.

Addressing the issue, Plumptre stressed that she is not active on Facebook and urged supporters not to trust any account on the platform claiming to represent her.

“There’s been a lot of cases of people trying to impersonate me, taking my name and saying things,” Plumptre said.

She further revealed that another Facebook account has been promising people money while pretending to be her, describing the claims as entirely false.

“There’s currently a Facebook account promising people money and it has not been taken down and it’s just not true,” she added.

Plumptre explained that although she opened a personal Facebook account years ago, she no longer uses the platform.

She encouraged fans seeking genuine updates to follow her on Instagram, adding that she only rarely posts on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Her warning highlights the growing problem of impersonation accounts targeting prominent athletes and public figures, and serves as a reminder for fans to verify information through official channels before accepting it as authentic.
