Atalanta were once again left frustrated as they stumbled to a second consecutive 1-1 draw, this time against Parma, with debutant Patrick Cutrone cancelling out Mario Pašalić’s opener.
Both sides came into the clash searching for their first league win of the season. Carlos Cuesta’s Parma were still nursing wounds from a 2-0 defeat to Juventus and had to cope with a long list of absentees, including Hernani, Matija Frigan, Jacob Ondrejka and Nicolas Trabucchi.
The good news was Botond Balogh’s return from suspension, while summer arrivals Gaetano Oristanio and Cutrone started on the bench.
Atalanta, meanwhile, were without Ederson, Sead Kolašinac, Mitchel Bakker and the unsettled Ademola Lookman, having already been held to a disappointing draw at home to Pisa.
La Dea almost struck first after 19 minutes. Marten de Roon pounced on Mandela Keita’s sloppy pass, and with goalkeeper Zion Suzuki caught off his line, Gianluca Scamacca attempted an audacious lob. The effort beat the keeper but rattled the upright of an empty net.
Parma responded through Lautaro Valenti, whose thunderous volley flew inches wide, and Adrian Bernabé, who forced Marco Carnesecchi into a sharp save.
Later, substitute Oristanio marked his debut with a powerful strike parried by Carnesecchi, before the keeper denied Mateo Pellegrino on the rebound – though play was eventually pulled back for a handball in the build-up.
Pellegrino also went close with a header from Valenti’s cross, while Kamaldeen Sulemana wasted a dangerous counter when teed up by Charles De Ketelaere.
At the other end, Nikola Krstović was guilty of a poor finish straight at Suzuki, but moments later he turned provider.
With his back to goal, the striker laid the ball off for Pašalić, who drilled a low effort through a crowded box and into the net to hand Atalanta the lead.
Yet their advantage evaporated quickly. From a Parma free kick, Enrico Del Prato’s towering header was somehow clawed off the line by Carnesecchi, only for Cutrone, making his first appearance in yellow and blue, to react quickest and bundle home the rebound from point-blank range.
Atalanta pressed late on but couldn’t find a winner, leaving both teams still hunting their first victory of the campaign.
