Bundesliga: Musiala injured as Bayern beat Augsburg

Bayern Munich overturned an early setback to defeat Augsburg 3-1 on Friday, stretching their Bundesliga lead to nine points but suffering a fresh injury blow with Jamal Musiala limping off ahead of their Champions League clash with Inter Milan.

The reigning champions, who are already missing Hiroki Ito, Alphonso Davies, and Dayot Upamecano, welcome the Serie A leaders to Munich on Tuesday for the quarterfinal first leg.

Augsburg, unbeaten in 11 league outings before kickoff, threatened to extend that run when Dimitris Gianoulis fired them in front with a clinical strike in the 30th minute.

But Bayern hit back before halftime as Musiala wriggled into space inside the box and slotted home an equalizer in the 42nd.

After the break, Michael Olise came close, smashing the bar, but the mood darkened when Musiala was forced off with what appeared to be a muscle problem.

The turning point came soon after, as Augsburg’s Cédric Zesiger was shown a second yellow card in the 59th minute. From the ensuing free kick, Harry Kane stooped low to head in his 23rd Bundesliga goal of the season and his 78th strike in 84 appearances for the Bavarians.

Leroy Sané, guilty of missing a gilt-edged chance earlier, helped seal victory in added time when his cross deflected off Chrislain Matsima for an own goal, ensuring Bayern’s grip at the summit with 68 points and six games left.
