La Liga: Sevilla beat Girona 2-0

1 Min Read

Girona FC suffered their third consecutive setback of the La Liga season on Saturday, falling 0–2 to Sevilla at Montilivi despite a spirited performance and the constant backing of their supporters.

The hosts started brightly, pressing forward with intent and carving out several opportunities, particularly from set pieces, as they forced no fewer than eleven corner kicks.

Yet it was Sevilla who struck first, Alfon González breaking the deadlock in the 30th minute to put the visitors ahead.

After the break, Míchel’s men pushed hard for an equalizer, but their momentum was cut short when Isaac Romero doubled Sevilla’s advantage in the 55th minute with a clinical finish on the counterattack.

Girona continued to pile on the pressure, but goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland stood firm, denying every attempt to mount a comeback.

With the international break now ahead, Girona will look to regroup before their next test away to Celta de Vigo on Sunday, September 14 at 2:00 PM.

The squad remains determined to bounce back and collect their first points of the campaign.
