Atalanta stretched their unbeaten start to 2026 in Serie A with a composed 2-0 away win over Lazio, securing their sixth victory in eight league matches and compounding the hosts’ poor run at home, where they’ve managed just one win in their last seven outings.
With only three of Atalanta’s previous 12 matches seeing both sides score, the opener was always likely to prove decisive.
The visitors nearly struck early when Lorenzo Bernasconi raced onto a long ball ahead of Ivan Provedel and squared for Nikola Krstovic, but Oliver Provstgaard recovered in time to deflect the effort over the bar on the line.
That scare woke Lazio up, and they responded almost immediately. Kenneth Taylor tried an acrobatic attempt that was easily handled by Marco Carnesecchi, before the Dutch midfielder struck the post after being teed up by on-loan Atalanta forward Daniel Maldini inside the area.
Chances from distance followed for both teams as the half edged toward the break, but the deadlock was finally broken when Davide Zappacosta’s cross struck the arm of Danilo Cataldi.
After a lengthy VAR review, a penalty was awarded, and Ederson calmly sent Provedel the wrong way to score his first league goal of the campaign.
The second half began with a similar incident at the other end, as Zappacosta was initially penalised for handball while challenging Nuno Tavares.
However, another VAR check overturned the decision after the Portuguese full-back was adjudged offside in the build-up.
Carnesecchi then produced a sharp save to tip away Tijjani Noslin’s glancing header, but Lazio’s hopes were effectively ended just before the hour mark.
Nicola Zalewski picked up the ball on the turn and curled a superb strike from 20 yards beyond Provedel into the bottom corner to double Atalanta’s advantage.
Lazio, who had taken only one point all season from matches in which they conceded first, struggled to mount a response.
Maldini fired over, a free-kick was comfortably dealt with by Carnesecchi, and Petar Ratkov struck the post with a late header.
Atalanta comfortably saw out the win, continuing their strong away record in this fixture with just one defeat in their last nine visits to Lazio, whose three-game unbeaten streak in all competitions came to an end.
