Fiorentina ended their poor run of form with a 4-2 victory over Sassuolo in Monday’s Serie A clash at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia, handing Alberto Aquilani’s side a fourth consecutive defeat.
The visitors came from behind twice before scoring two late goals to secure all three points in an entertaining encounter.
The victory also saw Fiorentina draw level with Sassuolo on the league table, with both sides still close to the relegation zone.
Sassuolo took the lead in the 25th minute through Armand Laurienté, who capitalised on a defensive mistake before beating goalkeeper David de Gea with a low finish.
Fiorentina responded in stoppage time of the first half as Mateo Pellegrino restored parity after being set up by Njie.
Fiorentina moved ahead five minutes after the restart when Njie cut inside from the left and curled a right-footed effort into the far corner.
However, Laurienté struck again in the 67th minute, completing his brace to bring Sassuolo back into the contest at 2-2.
The visitors regained the lead in the 79th minute through Franco Mastantuono, who finished off a move initiated by Goncalves.
Fiorentina sealed the victory in the third minute of added time when Valdepenas tapped home from close range following a cross from Ndour.
The defeat extended Sassuolo’s losing streak to four matches under Aquilani, leaving the club only three points above the relegation zone.
Fiorentina, meanwhile, also remain in the relegation battle despite the important away victory.
Fiorentina will host Juventus on November 8, while Sassuolo will travel to face Roma on November 7 in their next Serie A fixtures.
