Abia South Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu’s recent cabinet reshuffle, alleging it perpetuates suffering in the Southeast region.
The senator expressed dissatisfaction with the replacement of Minister of Women Affairs Uju-Ken Ohanenye with Bianca Ojukwu as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
Abaribe stated that this change does not constitute progress for his constituents, according to Politics Nigeria.
Abaribe’s criticism centers on President Tinubu’s alleged breach of the constitution by neglecting federal character in the reshuffled cabinet.
The senator pointed out that the president has disregarded this principle for the past 18 months.
The recent changes, according to Abaribe, did little to address the concerns of the South East. He emphasized that the Igbos desire fairness and equity, as enshrined in the constitution, and should be treated equally alongside other regions.
Abaribe’s stance highlights the ongoing debate surrounding President Tinubu’s cabinet reshuffle and its implications for regional representation and fairness.
Abaribe expressed dissatisfaction with the reshuffle, stating it doesn’t feel like progress. “For my constituents, nothing has changed. They call it ‘Renewed Shege’ not ‘Renewed Hope’.”
He said, “The president has breached it for the last 18 months. We thought that with these changes, maybe there will be some adjustments that will also put some balm on what is going on in the minds of people from the South East.
“I want to tell everyone that the Igbos want fairness and equity, which are in the constitution. Treat us as you are treating everybody else.”
