The Federal Government of Nigeria has issued a stern warning to foreign countries against meddling in the nation’s internal affairs.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, made the statement while briefing members of the Diplomatic Corps in Abuja.
Tuggar emphasized the importance of cordial international relationships but stressed that no nation tolerates foreign interference in its domestic affairs, according to Daily Post.
He warned that the government would take appropriate action against any foreign entity found to have supported protesters or interfered in Nigeria’s internal affairs.
The minister’s statement comes after recent protests in major cities, which were marked by violence, and the arrest of six Spaniards in Kano in connection with the protests. Tuggar reiterated the government’s efforts to address challenges facing Nigeria and Nigerians through reform programs and measures.
He solicited the understanding and collaboration of the international community in addressing economic challenges and achieving a better life for Nigerians.
The government values its relationships with foreign countries and organizations but will not tolerate any interference in its internal affairs.
“Nigeria cherishes and continues to value the cordial relationships that happily subsist between her and your countries and organizations and will not do anything to undermine or take for granted such relationships.
“Indeed, more than any time before now, we solicit your understanding and collaboration in the ongoing efforts of the Federal Government in addressing the economic challenges confronting the country, to achieve a better life for every Nigerians at home and abroad,” the minister warned.
