The Nigeria Police Force has released the official portrait of its acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, ahead of his swearing-in scheduled for Wednesday.
The announcement was made in a post on X by the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, on Tuesday.
Disu was formally described in the portrait as the Inspector-General of Police, following his unanimous endorsement by the Nigeria Police Council on Monday.
President Bola Tinubu is expected to swear him in during the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, according to the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
“The swearing-in ceremony will take place during the Federal Executive Council meeting scheduled for the same day,” Onanuga said.
Disu, 59, was born on April 13, 1966, in Lagos State and joined the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992, as a Cadet Assistant
Superintendent of Police.
He holds qualifications in public administration, forensic investigation, criminology, security studies, legal psychology, and entrepreneurship.
Before his appointment as IGP, he served as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Special Protection Unit and the Force CID Annex in Lagos.
Disu also served under Tinubu during the latter’s tenure as Lagos State Governor from 1999 to 2007, acting as Aide-de-Camp while Kayode Egbetokun, his predecessor, was Chief Security Officer.
Disu’s appointment as substantive IGP comes barely a week after Tinubu named him acting Inspector-General, following Egbetokun’s resignation, citing “family issues.”
