Police recover two pistols from abandoned motorcycle in Anambra

The Anambra State Police Command has recovered two locally made pistols and three caps bearing an inscription associated with the Vikings Confraternity from an abandoned motorcycle in Awka North Local Government Area of the state.

The recovery was made on Thursday by operatives of the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit during a patrol along the Isuaniocha Bridge.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed the development in a statement on Friday.

Ikenga said the officers noticed two young men riding a black Sanyang motorcycle without a registration number. According to him, the riders became suspicious after sighting the police team and suddenly turned around in an apparent attempt to escape.

“The suspicious action prompted the officers to give them a hot chase,” Ikenga said.

He explained that the suspects eventually fell off the motorcycle and abandoned it, along with two slippers and a bag, before escaping into a nearby bush.

A search of the abandoned bag, according to the police spokesman, led to the discovery of the two fabricated pistols and three caps bearing an inscription linked to the Vikings Confraternity.

“The operatives recovered two fabricated pistols and three caps bearing an inscription associated with a secret cult from an abandoned motorcycle in Awka North Local Government Area,” he said.

Ikenga added that police operatives had commenced efforts to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects, as well as determine their affiliations and the circumstances surrounding their possession of the recovered items.

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, directed the operatives to intensify efforts to apprehend the suspects.

According to the statement, the commissioner reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustained patrols, intelligence-led operations and proactive policing to disrupt criminal activities and protect residents across the state.

The police urged residents to continue providing useful information that could assist security agencies in preventing and tackling crime.
