Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has ordered the Amaeze Aguleri and Umuoba Anam communities in Anambra East Local Government Area to end hostilities and maintain peace following a recent violent clash.
The confrontation reportedly led to deaths and injuries, while several properties, including the palace of a traditional ruler, were destroyed by fire.
The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying Soludo was deeply concerned about the casualties and destruction arising from the dispute.
According to Aburime, the governor has directed the communities to exercise restraint while efforts are made to resolve the underlying issues responsible for the prolonged disagreement.
The statement quoted Soludo as saying, “Violence, bloodletting, and destruction of property have no place in a peaceful and prosperous Anambra State.”
To facilitate a lasting resolution, the governor has scheduled an emergency peace and security meeting with representatives and other relevant stakeholders from the two communities.
The meeting is expected to take place on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at the Light House in Awka.
Soludo directed that all claims, grievances and other issues relating to the dispute should be presented through the recognised representatives of the communities at the meeting.
The governor also ordered both communities to immediately stop all forms of confrontation pending the outcome of the peace initiative.
The statement said, “In the interim, the Governor has issued a stern directive ordering both communities to immediately cease all forms of hostilities, maintain absolute peace, and exercise restraint.”
Meanwhile, security personnel, including police officers, have been deployed to the affected area to restore and maintain law and order.
The deployment is also aimed at protecting residents and preventing further attacks or destruction of property.
Soludo assured residents that his administration would continue to prioritise the protection of lives and property and pursue peaceful solutions to communal disputes across the state.
