The Gombe State Police Command has recovered a Beretta pistol and a stolen Toyota Camry in separate operations conducted across the state over the past 48 hours.
The Punch reported that the development was confirmed on Saturday in a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, Buhari Abdullahi.
Abdullahi explained that the first operation led to the recovery of a Beretta pistol with an empty magazine after a vigilant resident spotted the weapon hidden beneath a stone near Brave Rock Sport/Recreational Park in the New GRA area of Gombe and alerted the police.
“The firearm was promptly reported to the police, and detectives immediately responded to the scene, where the Beretta pistol with an empty magazine was recovered. Investigation is ongoing to determine the ownership of the weapon and the circumstances surrounding its concealment,” the PPRO said.
In another operation, police operatives recovered a stolen 2010 Toyota Camry through what the command described as a swift and coordinated effort involving the Police Control Room and officers from the Dukku Division.
According to Abdullahi, the suspect abandoned the vehicle and escaped after noticing that security operatives were closing in on him.
“During the operation, the suspect fled the scene, abandoning the stolen Toyota Camry. A bunch of fabricated master keys and other suspicious items were recovered from the vehicle. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and conclude the investigation,” he stated.
The police spokesperson praised members of the public for their alertness and cooperation, encouraging residents to continue sharing credible and timely information with security agencies to strengthen crime prevention and improve public safety across the state.
