Police raid uncompleted buildings, criminal hideouts in FCT

The Federal Capital Territory Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, has ordered an immediate clampdown on uncompleted buildings and suspected criminal hideouts across Abuja.

The directive, issued to all Divisional Police Officers, is part of renewed efforts to curb rising incidents of robbery, abduction, and car theft reportedly linked to abandoned or ongoing construction sites, especially in satellite towns.

A statement released on Tuesday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the operation takes effect immediately.

“In a continued effort to strengthen security and ensure the safety of lives and property across the Federal Capital Territory, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao S. Adewale, has directed all DPOs to intensify patrols and conduct thorough raids on all uncompleted buildings and suspected criminal hideouts within their jurisdictions,” Adeh stated.

She explained that the order is a proactive security measure aimed at preventing criminals from using uncompleted or abandoned structures as operational bases.

Adeh added that property developers must report to the nearest police divisions to register and profile all artisans, labourers, and security personnel working or residing at construction sites before the end of October 2025.

“Consequently, property developers are urged to ensure that those sleeping at active construction sites are properly documented by the police. DPOs have also been directed to conduct routine patrols of such areas and arrest any unidentified person found on-site after 6:00 p.m.,” she said.

The police spokesperson further warned that scavenging activities, popularly known as Baban Bola, remain banned within the FCT due to their association with theft and vandalism.

“The Commissioner reiterates that scavenging remains strictly prohibited within the FCT. Residents should immediately report any scavengers or suspicious persons sighted in their neighbourhoods,” Adeh cautioned.

The Command also urged residents, estate associations, and community leaders to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious movements and ensuring proper profiling of security guards and domestic workers.

“Security is a collective responsibility. We call on all residents to be vigilant and work closely with the police to ensure the safety of their communities,” Adeh added.

The FCT Police Command has in recent months intensified efforts to tackle insecurity across Abuja, with special operations targeted at criminal gangs operating in developing districts and outskirts of the city.
