Police investigate death of unidentified woman found in FCT

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has opened an investigation into the death of a woman whose body was discovered along the Kubwa Expressway in Abuja.

According to the police, the woman was found on Tuesday, while her handbag—containing an identity card and other personal effects—was recovered a short distance from where her body lay. Preliminary findings from documents found on her suggest that she may have been an employee of the FCT High Court.

Confirming the development in a statement on Wednesday, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said detectives had begun discreet investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“The FCT Police Command is aware of this unfortunate incident,” Adeh said.

“Discrete investigations are currently ongoing to unravel the facts and circumstances surrounding the woman’s death. Further details will be made available as the investigation progresses.”

The incident comes amid heightened concern over recent violent deaths in the nation’s capital. It follows closely on the killing of a nurse at the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, identified as Chinemerem Chuwumeziem.

Chuwumeziem’s death sparked widespread outrage, with the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives FCT Council, condemning the incident.

In a statement issued by the council’s chairman, Jama Medan, the association disclosed that the nurse had closed from afternoon duty on January 3 and boarded a vehicle home but never arrived alive.

The police have assured residents that efforts are ongoing to ensure justice is served, while urging the public to remain calm and cooperate with investigators by providing useful information that could aid the probe.
