The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged shooting of popular Nigerian skit maker and social media influencer, Samuel Perry, widely known as Broda Shaggy.
The incident was said to have occurred on Sunday afternoon while the comedian was reportedly filming a comedy skit under the Sango-Ota bridge.
Details surrounding the shooting remain unclear, but a police source, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to comment on the matter, disclosed that the entertainer sustained a gunshot injury during the incident.
According to the source, members of Broda Shaggy’s crew immediately rushed him to Blooming Care Hospital in the Alakuko area of Lagos for medical attention.
“He was shooting a skit under the Sango-Ota bridge when he sustained a gunshot injury. We are yet to ascertain exactly how the incident happened, but his crew quickly took him to the hospital for treatment,” the source said.
The source added that the hospital’s medical team administered first aid before referring him to Duchess Hospital in the Government Residential Area of Ikeja for further treatment.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the command had commenced an investigation but could not confirm that the incident occurred within Ogun State.
“For the sake of clarity, the command cannot confirm that Broda Shaggy was shot anywhere within Ogun State,” Babaseyi said in a statement.
“Investigation into the matter has, however, commenced. Members of the public are advised to refrain from spreading unverified information while the investigation continues.”
Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command said it became aware of the incident after a hospital reported receiving a gunshot victim.
The command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, said officers were immediately deployed to the facility, where they discovered that the victim was the popular comedian.
“We were alerted by the hospital about a gunshot victim brought to their facility. Our detectives and patrol team visited the hospital and found him on a stretcher with an injury to his thigh,” she said.
Adebisi noted that preliminary findings indicated the incident occurred in Sango-Ota, which is outside the Lagos command’s jurisdiction, but said investigations were ongoing.
Efforts to get a reaction from Broda Shaggy’s management were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report. His manager, Olufemi Oguntamu, popularly known as Penzaar, said he was unavailable to comment when contacted earlier.
