Police nab suspected bandit informant in Sokoto

Security operatives have arrested a suspected informant accused of providing information to bandits operating around Romo community in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The suspect, identified as Ashiru Abubakar from Gumfa Gebe village in Wamakko Local Government Area, was allegedly linked to criminal elements operating in Tambuwal.

The Punch reported that Abubakar was also reportedly connected to a threat issued to residents of Romo, who were allegedly ordered to pay N10m or face an attack.

His arrest comes amid heightened security concerns in Tambuwal and neighbouring communities following recent attacks and kidnapping incidents that have prompted residents to demand stronger security measures.

Rufai said the arrest followed investigations into Abubakar’s alleged activities and his links with criminal elements.

Meanwhile, residents of the affected communities have called for a stronger security presence and improved intelligence-led operations to prevent further attacks and facilitate the return of displaced residents.
