Police nab kidnap suspect in Delta-led operation

The Delta State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered several sophisticated firearms during an intelligence-driven operation carried out across Rivers, Bayelsa and Delta states.

The command said the operation, executed by operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team, reflects its renewed resolve to sustain aggressive action against kidnapping and other violent crimes under the leadership of the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola.

Confirming the development in a statement on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed that the suspect was initially apprehended in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team arrested a suspected kidnapper in Port Harcourt,” Edafe said.

“The suspect later led the team to Bayelsa State, where an AK-47 rifle was recovered.”

He explained that further investigation led officers back to Delta State, where more weapons were uncovered.

“Following the trail, another AK-47 rifle was recovered at the Patani axis of Delta State,” the police spokesperson stated.

“In a separate raid on another criminal group, our operatives also recovered two K-2 rifles, two pump-action guns, two locally fabricated firearms, as well as large quantities of ammunition and cartridges.”

Edafe noted that the success of the operation demonstrates the command’s commitment to building on security strategies deployed since 2025, adding that the new police leadership would not relent in its fight against crime.

“The Delta State Police Command is working. We have continued from where we stopped in 2025, and under CP Aina Adesola, Delta will be extremely uncomfortable for kidnappers and other violent criminals,” he said.

The suspect is currently in police custody, while investigations are ongoing to track down and arrest other members of the criminal networks who are still at large.

The police assured residents of the state that proactive operations and intelligence-led patrols would be sustained to ensure the safety of lives and property.
