The Kaduna State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two of its personnel during a bandit attack on the Divisional Police Headquarters in Zonkwa, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of the state.
Spokesperson for the command, DSP Mansir Hassan, disclosed the development in a statement on Saturday, saying that an investigation had commenced to uncover the details behind the incident.
He said, “We lost two of our officers in an unfortunate attack by suspected bandits at the Zonkwa Divisional Headquarters. Investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack and to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.”
According to sources, the armed bandits invaded the police station on Friday evening in a bid to rescue some suspects reportedly arrested for vandalism in Kachia Local Government Area. However, it was later discovered that the suspects were not in custody at the station when the assailants struck.
The attack adds to the rising wave of insecurity in the North-West region, where police and community protection guards have repeatedly come under assault.
Just two days earlier, PUNCH Online reported that five policemen and three members of the Community Protection Guards were killed by bandits during a patrol along the Gusau–Funtua Road in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
DSP Hassan urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies, assuring that efforts were ongoing to restore peace and bring those responsible to book.
He added, “The command is committed to safeguarding lives and property. We call on members of the public to support us with credible information to help in the ongoing investigation.”
