Police investigate death of 29-year-old Bolt driver in Calabar

The Cross River State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a 29-year-old Bolt driver, Emmanuel Effiong Ita, whose body was discovered inside his Honda City car in Calabar.

Ita’s body was reportedly found on Friday along the Target–Udy King axis of the Cross River State capital, under circumstances the police described as suspicious.

The deceased, who lived in Ikot Effanga Mkpa, Calabar, was found with an injury to his chest, according to preliminary findings by the police.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Eitokpah, said the command was alerted to the incident and promptly sent officers to the location.

He, however, explained that by the time the police arrived, Ita’s family had already taken his remains to the mortuary of a general hospital.

“An initial examination at the mortuary revealed an injury on his chest,” Eitokpah said.

He added that the deceased’s vehicle had been recovered by the police, while items and other evidence considered relevant to the case were being preserved for forensic examination.

According to the PPRO, the matter would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation aimed at determining how the driver died.

“The Command has commenced a preliminary investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding his death. His vehicle has been recovered, while relevant evidence is being preserved for further forensic and investigative examination,” he said.

Eitokpah urged members of the public to refrain from spreading unverified claims about the incident, stressing that the investigation was still ongoing.

He assured that the command would work to establish the facts surrounding Ita’s death and ensure that anyone found culpable faced justice.

“The Command remains committed to uncovering the facts and ensuring that anyone found responsible is brought to justice,” the police spokesman said.
