The Delta State Police Command has announced a renewed enforcement drive against traffic offenders, stressing that compliance with road regulations across the state is mandatory.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the command said it had put in place stricter measures to ensure motorists obey traffic laws, warning that violators would be prosecuted.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed that seven mobile courts had been established to fast-track the trial of traffic-related offences.
According to him, the initiative is aimed at strengthening enforcement and ensuring offenders are promptly brought to justice.
“The enforcement of traffic laws is not negotiable. We have set up mobile courts to ensure swift prosecution of offenders and to reinforce discipline on our roads,” he said.
Adejobi emphasised that all vehicles operating on Nigerian roads must be duly registered and display visible number plates, adding that any form of concealment would not be tolerated.
“Every vehicle must be properly registered, and its number plates must be clearly displayed at all times. Covered or altered plates will attract sanctions,” he stated.
He also cautioned against the misuse of sirens by unauthorised individuals, describing the act as illegal and punishable under existing laws.
The police further directed motorists to ensure their vehicles are licensed and that relevant documents are readily available for inspection when requested by law enforcement officers.
“Drivers must carry valid documentation, including photocopies of vehicle papers, and present them on demand. Anyone found wanting will face legal consequences,” Adejobi added.
He reiterated the need for drivers to possess valid licences and warned against reckless driving, urging road users to prioritise safety.
“No driver should be behind the wheel without a valid licence. Reckless driving will not be condoned, as our priority is the safety of all road users,” he said.
The police also appealed to residents to cooperate with traffic authorities, noting that the enforcement campaign is designed to promote order and reduce accidents across the state.
Adejobi assured that the command would sustain the operation and ensure that offenders are apprehended and prosecuted through the mobile court system.
