Police arrest three suspected cultists in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspected cultists in separate operations across Mowe and Sagamu areas of the state, recovering locally made firearms, cartridges, and charms.

The arrests, which took place between April 14 and 18, 2026, were carried out during intelligence-led operations and routine stop-and-search duties by divisional units and the Quick Response Squad, according to the command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi.

Speaking on the development, Babaseyi said, “Our operatives acted on credible intelligence and routine patrol strategies to apprehend suspects linked to unlawful possession of firearms and cult-related activities.”

In one of the incidents, operatives attached to the Mowe Division arrested a 36-year-old suspect, Opeyemi Anuoluwapo, at a bus stop following a tip-off from a member of the public.

“A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a locally made single-barrelled pistol, an expended cartridge, and some charms,” Babaseyi stated. “During interrogation, he admitted to being a member of the Eiye confraternity.”

In another operation along the Sagamu–Ogijo corridor, officers of the Quick Response Squad intercepted a motorcycle rider, identified as 30-year-old Asaye Ajibola.

“Upon searching the suspect, a locally made single-barrel gun loaded with nine cartridges was recovered,” Babaseyi said. “He could not provide any reasonable explanation for being in possession of the weapon.”

Similarly, a second motorcycle rider, 49-year-old Adedeji Olufemi, was apprehended along the same route a day later.

“Our team recovered a locally made double-barrel gun with eight cartridges from the suspect,” he added. “He was immediately taken into custody after failing to account for the firearm.”
