Police arrest three armed robbers, recover stolen vehicles in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered three stolen vehicles as well as a locally fabricated pistol during coordinated intelligence-led operations by the Anti-Robbery Squad.

The suspects, identified as Hammed Olarewaju, Adedokun Ayinde, and Adedokun Adewusi—were apprehended following investigations into a series of vehicle thefts reported across Ogun State and neighbouring jurisdictions.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the breakthrough began when operatives intercepted Olarewaju, who was found with a suspicious vehicle plate number.

He said the arrest triggered further investigation, which led to the capture of the alleged syndicate leader.

“His arrest led to further investigation and the apprehension of Adedokun Ayinde, identified as the alleged leader of a robbery syndicate operating within the state,” Babaseyi stated.

During the operation, police recovered a Toyota Sienna earlier reported stolen, alongside a fabricated pistol believed to have been used in armed robberies.

In a separate development, another stolen vehicle—a Toyota Corolla taken from Ilaro—was traced to Ibadan, Oyo State, where it was recovered from one Arowolo Taoreed.

The police also linked Adedokun Adewusi to another robbery case involving a stolen 2017 Lexus RX 350 F-Sport reportedly traced to Abuja. A second firearm was later recovered in Ajah, Lagos State, believed to be connected to the same criminal network.

Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects were part of a coordinated syndicate responsible for vehicle theft and armed robbery across Ogun and neighbouring states.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for what he described as professionalism and effective intelligence-driven policing.

“This operation reflects the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and the fight against violent crime,” he said.

“We will continue to ensure that criminal elements have no safe haven in Ogun State.”

He assured residents that efforts were ongoing to track down fleeing members of the gang and recover additional stolen vehicles.

The police also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely information that could aid ongoing security operations.

“The cooperation of residents remains critical in our fight against crime,” Babaseyi added.

“We encourage the public to report suspicious movements through our emergency lines.”
