Police arrest father, son, others with firearms in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested five suspects, including a father and his son, during separate intelligence-led operations that led to the recovery of four firearms across different parts of the state.

The police disclosed that the operations, carried out by various divisional commands, resulted in the recovery of one locally made pistol, one locally fabricated pistol, and two dane guns, alongside a live cartridge and a stolen Tecno Android phone worth ₦180,000.

In a statement released on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Oluseyi Babaseye, said operatives of the Afon Division arrested a father, Fatai Adegbola, and his 23-year-old son, Waliu Adegbola, over an alleged theft case.

According to Babaseye, the arrest followed a report received on May 22, 2026, accusing Waliu of stealing a Tecno Android phone from a residential apartment earlier in the month.

“Acting on credible intelligence, operatives tracked and recovered the stolen phone.

Subsequently, a search of the suspects’ residence, conducted pursuant to a duly obtained warrant, led to the discovery of a locally made pistol and a dane gun allegedly concealed within the premises,” the statement read.

In another operation, police operatives attached to the Ilisan Remo Division reportedly recovered a locally fabricated pistol and one live cartridge during a patrol around the Ilisan Remo Roundabout on May 27.

Babaseye said the firearm was found abandoned and immediately secured by officers.

The police spokesperson added that efforts were ongoing to trace the source and ownership of the weapon.

Meanwhile, operatives of the Ode Remo Division arrested a 25-year-old suspect, identified as Inioluwa Adesanya, in connection with the alleged theft of a dane gun belonging to a resident.

Police investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly gained access to the victim’s residence while posing as a carpenter’s assistant during renovation work.

He noted that all recovered exhibits had been secured, while the suspects remained in custody pending further investigation and prosecution.

The cases have since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Reacting to the arrests, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended officers involved in the operations for their professionalism and swift response.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intensifying efforts against violent crimes, cultism, armed robbery, and illegal possession of firearms in the state.

The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station or through designated emergency channels.
