Popular Nigerian dancer and hypeman, Iweh Odinaka, better known as Poco Lee, is expected to appear before a London court on September 15, 2026, over an alleged assault offence.
The development was disclosed by Benjamin Kuti, popularly known as the Oluomo of Derby, who is the founder of the community of Nigerians in the United Kingdom.
Kuti said Poco Lee is currently being held on remand in a UK prison and is scheduled to appear before the Snaresbrook Crown Court at 10am on September 15.
Speaking on the development, Kuti said, “I can confirm that the reports are true. Poco Lee is currently on remand in a UK prison.”
He explained that the upcoming proceeding is expected to be a plea hearing, during which the accused would indicate whether he is pleading guilty or not guilty to the allegation.
Kuti added that he intended to attend the court session to offer support to the Nigerian entertainer.
“I will also be attending the court proceedings as part of my support for the Nigerian community in the UK, to ensure that our fellow Nigerian receives the appropriate support during this difficult period of his life,” he said.
He urged the public to allow the legal process to run its course, stressing that an accused person should not be presumed guilty before a court determines the case.
“It is important that we allow the legal process to take its course. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law,” Kuti said
Reports about Poco Lee’s alleged detention in the UK began circulating on social media on August 19. Initial reports did not identify the alleged complainant or provide details about the circumstances surrounding the reported offence.
There was also no immediate independent confirmation from the UK police or the court regarding the reported arrest and allegations.
An email sent to the court seeking confirmation of the proceedings had not received a response as of the time of filing the report.
Poco Lee, who is known for his dance performances and work as a hypeman, has yet to publicly comment on the allegation.
