The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has confirmed that the sexual assault case involving a TikTok user, Mirabel, has been transferred to officials in Ogun State after investigations showed the incident occurred outside Lagos jurisdiction.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the agency disclosed that it had contacted a close friend of the survivor, who confirmed that she had been discharged from the hospital following treatment.
The case drew widespread reactions on social media after the victim shared her experience on TikTok, triggering the hashtag #StopRapingWomen and prompting calls for justice and stronger protection for survivors.
According to the agency, public cooperation helped officials respond quickly to the situation.
“Following our earlier statement and the strong public response, we were able to establish communication with a close friend of the survivor, who confirmed she has been discharged from the hospital,” the agency said.
“We appreciate members of the public who reached out with useful information and ensured swift intervention.”
The alleged assault was reported to have taken place on Sunday, February 15, while the survivor made the incident public the following day.
However, the agency clarified that the crime occurred in Ogun State, meaning it falls outside its operational jurisdiction in Lagos State.
“We have confirmed that the incident happened in Ogun State and is therefore outside the jurisdiction of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency,” the statement added.
“In the spirit of inter-agency collaboration and survivor protection, all relevant information has been forwarded to the appropriate authorities in Ogun State.”
The agency expressed confidence that the Ogun State Police Command is now handling the case and urged the survivor to cooperate fully to ensure a thorough investigation.
“We understand the Ogun State Police Command is currently handling the matter, and we trust that the survivor will cooperate with authorities to enable due process,” it stated.
The DSVA reiterated its commitment to supporting survivors of sexual violence and encouraged the public to continue reporting cases through its official channels.
