Plateau govt condemns fresh attacks, warns against reprisals

The Plateau State Government has condemned fresh attacks reported in parts of Mangu Local Government Area and Kuru in Jos South Local Government Area, urging residents to remain calm and avoid retaliatory violence.

The government, in a statement issued on Monday by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Lohya Ramnap, said the Mangu attacks occurred on Saturday, September 12, 2026, while another violent incident was reported around Dungus Junction, Kuru, on Sunday.

According to the statement, the attacks resulted in deaths and injuries, describing the development as particularly troubling amid ongoing efforts to strengthen security and peace across the state.

The government said it had been working with security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders through dialogue, intelligence sharing and community engagement to prevent a deterioration of the security situation.

It urged residents of affected communities to remain alert and support security agencies with useful information that could help prevent further attacks and identify those responsible.

“Citizens are equally urged to resist the temptation to resort to reprisal attacks, which can further escalate violence and undermine the peace-building efforts of the State,” the statement said.

The administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang also reiterated its commitment to protecting residents and restoring confidence across the state.

The government said, “The protection of lives and property is fundamental to the administration’s vision of rebuilding trust, restoring confidence and creating an environment where citizens can live, farm, travel, invest and pursue their livelihoods without fear.”

It expressed sympathy to families who lost loved ones in the attacks and wished those injured a quick recovery.

“The Plateau State Government commiserates with the families of those who lost their lives and wishes the injured a speedy recovery. We assure affected communities that Government shares in their pain and will continue to work relentlessly towards securing the State,” Ramnap said.

Security personnel have reportedly been deployed to the affected communities in Mangu and Kuru, while the state government said it would continue engaging traditional and community leaders to prevent further violence.
