Plateau govt arraigns five suspects over Angwa-Rukuba killings

The Plateau State Government has initiated legal proceedings against five individuals accused of involvement in the deadly March 2026 attack in Angwa-Rukuba, located in Jos North Local Government Area.

The suspects were earlier apprehended by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) following investigations into the incident, which left several residents dead and sparked widespread concern.

Confirming the development, a government official said the move underscores the state’s commitment to ensuring justice for victims and their families.

“We have taken decisive steps by filing charges against the suspects. This demonstrates our resolve to hold those responsible accountable under the law,” the official stated.

The arraignment comes weeks after Bola Ahmed Tinubu visited Plateau State, where he assured affected communities that perpetrators of the violence would be brought to justice.

A source close to the case noted that the prosecution is expected to present evidence gathered during the DSS investigation in court.

“The government is determined to pursue this case diligently. The victims deserve justice, and the law must take its course,” the source added.

The Angwa-Rukuba killings had drawn national attention, with calls from civil society groups and residents for swift action against those responsible.
Further details on the court proceedings are expected to emerge in the coming days.
