The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has announced the birth of twin princes with one of his wives, Olori Mariam Ajibola, bringing celebration to the Royal House of Oduduwa.
The revered monarch shared the news on Friday through a statement posted on his official Facebook page, expressing gratitude for the safe delivery of the babies and the wellbeing of the mother.
According to the statement, both Olori Mariam and the newborn princes are in good health.
The palace message read, “We return all glory to Almighty God for His endless blessings and mercies. We rejoice with the House of Oduduwa and Olori Mariam Ajibola on the safe arrival of twin princes to the royal family.”
It further stated, “We are grateful to God that both the mother and the children are healthy and doing well.”
The birth marks another significant moment for the Ile-Ife royal household, drawing congratulatory messages from admirers, royal associates, and members of the Yoruba community.
Oba Ogunwusi, who ascended the throne as the Ooni of Ife in 2015, has in recent years drawn public attention over his marriages. Following the end of his union with former queen, Naomi Silekunola, the monarch married several wives in 2022, including Olori Mariam.
Speaking previously on his family decisions, the monarch explained that certain traditional expectations connected to the ancient throne of Ile-Ife influenced his choices.
The Ooni had noted, “There are things tied to the institution and heritage of Ile-Ife that cannot simply be changed.”
