One killed, two injured in Lagos road crash

A tragic road accident at the Idi-Iroko inward Ogolonto axis of Ikorodu Road in Lagos has left one passenger dead and two others seriously injured.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, involved a truck with registration number EKY 121 YJ and a fully loaded commercial Mazda bus marked LND 490 SD.

Confirming the development, the General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said the crash was caused by reckless driving.

He explained in a statement signed by the agency’s spokesperson, Taofiq Adebayo, that “investigations revealed the Mazda bus driver was struggling for right of way when it collided with the truck.”

According to him, the impact threw one passenger, who was seated at the doorway of the bus, onto the road where he was crushed to death by the truck’s rear tyres.

Bakare-Oki added, “Two other passengers, a male and a female, sustained severe injuries. They were quickly rescued and taken by the Lagos State Ambulance Service to the Ikorodu General Hospital for treatment.”

The remains of the deceased victim were later released to his family by police officers, while security operatives from the Owutu Police Division supported LASTMA during the rescue operation.

The two vehicles involved in the accident were eventually cleared from the road to restore free movement.
