NSCDC deploys 57,000 personnel for Easter security

The Nigeria Security and Defence Corps, has announced the deployment of more than 57,000 personnel nationwide to guarantee a peaceful and secure Easter celebration.

According to a statement issued by the Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, ACC Afolabi Babawale, the deployment was approved by the Commandant General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Audi.

Babawale explained that the large-scale operation will involve officers from specialised tactical units and intelligence teams, describing it as a proactive step aimed at strengthening security and safeguarding lives and property during the Easter period.

The deployment will cover all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with the Corps intensifying efforts to prevent possible security breaches during the celebrations.

He added that beyond ensuring public safety, the NSCDC would place strong emphasis on protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure across the country.

“To ensure effectiveness, the Commandant General has issued explicit instructions to all Zonal Commanders, State Commandants, and Provosts of Colleges to maintain comprehensive oversight within their respective jurisdictions.

“Security efforts will be particularly concentrated on high-traffic locations. Churches, shopping complexes, public parks, and recreational centres are set to be under strict surveillance. The Corps plans to utilise a combination of visible patrols and undercover agents to preemptively identify and neutralise criminal elements before they can act,” he said.

Audi also noted that the success of the operation would depend largely on strong collaboration with other security agencies, as well as the swift handling of information provided by members of the public.

He maintained that the Corps remains committed to working with relevant authorities to ensure peace and order throughout the Easter festivities.

“Our goal is a seamless and secure Easter season. We are working hand-in-hand with sister agencies to maintain order. I also urge parents and guardians to guide their children properly, ensuring they are not manipulated into engaging in activities that could disrupt public peace”, said Audi.

The statement further revealed that several specialised NSCDC units have already been placed on high alert to reinforce the operation.

Among the teams on standby are the CG’s Special Intelligence Squad, the Mining Marshals, the Special Female Squad, and the Crack Squad, all of which have been tasked with responding swiftly to any threat capable of undermining public safety and national stability.
