The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Kano State Command, has arrested six suspects for allegedly vandalising railway sleepers in Kiru Local Government Area.
State Commandant, Mohammed Agalama, disclosed this during a news conference at the command headquarters on Wednesday.
He said, “The command has arrested six individuals involved in the illegal removal and theft of railway sleepers in Kano State.”
According to him, the suspects were apprehended through intelligence gathering and surveillance operations while tampering with railway infrastructure.
Agalama described the act as economic sabotage, adding, “Such activities pose serious threats to public safety and national development.”
Items recovered from the suspects include vandalised railway materials, nuts, and tools such as gas cylinders and hoses used in carrying out the operation.
Preliminary investigations, he said, revealed that the suspects intended to sell the stolen materials for personal gain.
The commandant warned that vandalism of critical infrastructure would not be tolerated, stating, “Anyone found engaging in the destruction of government property will face the full weight of the law.”
He added that the suspects would be prosecuted upon completion of investigations, reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting national assets and ensuring public safety.
