Norwegian club Molde break silence after Daniel Daga’s sexual assault acquittal

Norwegian side Molde have announced that Flying Eagles midfielder Daniel Daga has been cleared of all charges, four months after a lower court found him guilty in a sexual assault case.

The 19-year-old joined the Eliteserien club in January 2025 as one of Nigeria’s brightest young prospects.

The defensive midfielder quickly adapted to life in Norway, featuring 17 times for Molde and establishing himself as an important member of the squad.

His progress was interrupted in April 2025 after he became the subject of a police investigation over an alleged sexual offense.

While Daga consistently denied the accusation, Molde removed him from all football-related activities until the legal process was concluded.

In March this year, the Romsdal District Court convicted the Nigerian youngster and directed him to pay NOK 10,000 in legal costs.

However, Daga challenged the ruling at the Court of Appeal, and the decision has now been overturned.

Molde confirmed the outcome in an official statement on the club’s website, declaring that the midfielder had been fully acquitted.

“Daniel Daga has been unanimously acquitted in the criminal case heard by the Frostating Court of Appeal. Based on the verdict, Molde FK considers that Daga will once again be available for play, even though the verdict is not yet final.”

The ruling paves the way for the teenager to resume competitive football immediately, although the club noted that the judgment has yet to become legally final.

Daga has been a regular member of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles since 2023. He played every match for the team at both the 2023 and 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cups, and his return to action could strengthen his chances of earning a future call-up to the Super Eagles.
