Norway court acquits ex-Flying Eagles’ star Daniel Daga of sexual assault

Former Flying Eagles star, Daniel Daga, has been cleared of sexual assault charges after a Norwegian appeal court overturned his earlier conviction, paving the way for his return to action with Molde FK.

The Norwegian club confirmed the decision of the Frostating Court of Appeal in a statement released on Thursday, noting that the Nigeria Under-20 midfielder is now eligible for selection again, although the judgment has not yet become final.

Daga had been handed a six-month prison sentence in March after being found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman whose identity was withheld.

The alleged incident was said to have occurred in April 2025, while formal charges were filed against the 19-year-old on December 19.

Following that conviction, Molde suspended the midfielder from first-team selection pending the outcome of the legal process.

With the appeal court ruling now in his favour, the club confirmed that Daga is set to return to its playing squad.

“Daniel Daga has been unanimously acquitted in the criminal case that has been heard by the Frostating Court of Appeal. Molde FK takes note of the verdict, even though the verdict is not yet final,” the club statement reads.

“The club recognises that this has been a serious and stressful matter for everyone affected.

“Since the indictment was filed, Molde FK has made ongoing assessments based on the situation and the club’s responsibility as an employer.”

Daga joined Molde at the beginning of the 2025 season and has featured 15 times for the Norwegian side, scoring three goals.

The midfielder is also a member of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles squad.
