Nollywood actress Ajara Lasisi, widely known by fans as Aunty Ajara, has died following a prolonged battle with illness.
The news of her death was confirmed on Thursday by Nollywood director Tobi Oladele Teemony, popularly known as Tee Mony, in a statement shared on his Instagram page.
“With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved actress, Aunty Ajara. She passed on overnight after a long and courageous battle with illness,” Teemony said.
He noted that the late actress received overwhelming support during her illness, including prayers and financial assistance from colleagues, fans, and well-wishers across the world.
“We are deeply grateful to everyone who stood by her with prayers, contributions, encouragement, and compassion throughout this difficult period,” he added.
Teemony also appealed to members of the public to discontinue donations previously solicited for her medical treatment, stressing that financial contributions were no longer needed.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, loved ones, and everyone mourning this painful loss,” the statement read.
The announcement was accompanied by a video message from the actress’s elder brother, Ridwan Lasisi, who confirmed her death and expressed appreciation to supporters.
“My name is Ridwan Lasisi. I am Ajara’s brother. The doctor confirmed to us this morning that Ajara has passed on,” he said.
He thanked the public, industry stakeholders, and colleagues who supported the actress during her illness, while also urging people to stop sending money into the account previously shared for her treatment.
“We sincerely appreciate everyone who supported us. Please, we appeal to those still sending money to stop. There is no longer a need for contributions,” Ridwan stated.
The actress’s death comes about a week after Teemony and several Nollywood figures, including Ronke Oshodi Oke, publicly appealed for urgent financial assistance, saying her health had deteriorated despite ongoing treatment.
At the time, Teemony disclosed that significant funds had already been spent on her care, but additional support was needed as her condition worsened.
Earlier reports had indicated that Aunty Ajara was battling a liver-related illness, with colleagues revealing that she had been placed on oxygen as her condition declined. Several Nollywood actors, including Wumi Toriola, Mide Martins, Afeez Owo, and Ronke Oshodi Oke, had rallied support for her treatment.
