The New Nigeria People’s Party has named Bala Mohammed as its new National Chairman following the resignation of Ajuji Ahmed, who has defected to the African Democratic Congress.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued in Abuja by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson.

He said the decision was endorsed by the party’s National Working Committee as part of efforts to reposition the NNPP ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Johnson described the new chairman, a former National Organising Secretary from Kaduna State, as a seasoned party administrator capable of steering the organisation through a politically charged period.

“The National Working Committee is pleased to announce the emergence of Bala Yunusa Mohammed as the new National Chairman of our party,” Johnson said. “He brings experience and leadership needed to navigate the current political landscape.”

The party also acknowledged the exit of Ahmed, thanking him for his contributions during his tenure.

“We recognise the role Dr Ajuji Ahmed played in strengthening the party and wish him success in his future political journey,” the statement added.

The NNPP said the leadership transition comes at a critical moment marked by economic challenges and shifting political alliances ahead of the next election cycle.

Expressing confidence in the new leadership, the party noted that Mohammed’s emergence signals renewed commitment to strengthening its internal structures and electoral prospects.

“Our democracy faces serious challenges, but the NNPP remains committed to representing the aspirations of ordinary Nigerians,” Johnson stated. “With the new leadership, we are not only preparing for elections but also working towards national renewal.”

The party urged members and supporters to unite behind the new chairman as it positions itself for the 2027 polls.

“We call on all stakeholders to rally behind the leadership as we consolidate our gains and build a stronger platform for the future,” the statement concluded.
