Belgian top-tier side KV Kortrijk have officially secured the services of Nigerian forward Sixtus Ogbuehi.
The 22-year-old was unveiled on Thursday as the club’s latest acquisition ahead of the new season.
“Sixtus Ogbuehi is the next red-and-white reinforcement!” the club announced.
“The Nigerian striker moved to Spain at the age of 19 to play for Eldense in LaLiga2 in the summer of 2024, after 18 goals in his first Spanish season.
“Since January of this year, the 22-year-old attacker has been on loan with Osasuna’s second team, scoring four goals and providing four assists.
“Sixtus also joined the first team’s training sessions during his loan spell and made several appearances for the La Liga club.
“The striker now comes permanently from Eldense and signs a contract at the Guldensporen Stadium until June 2028.
Welcome, Sixtus!”
From Owerri Roots to European Football
Born in Owerri, Imo State, Ogbuehi began his football journey with local club Campos FC, representing them in the Nigeria National League during the 2021–22 campaign.
He found the net nine times in 16 matches, showcasing early signs of promise.
His talent soon earned him a move to Spain, where he signed with Moralo CP. Initially placed with the reserve side in the Primera División Extremeña, Ogbuehi later went on loan to Tercera Federación outfit CP Montehermoso in January 2023.
He returned to Moralo in July and earned promotion to the first team in August after penning a contract extension.
His sharp form, eight goals in just 14 appearances, caught the attention of AD Ceuta FC, who signed him on 1 February 2024, assigning him to their B team in Spain’s fifth division.
Ogbuehi’s eye for goal continued at Ceuta B, where he tallied ten goals. That run of form led to a transfer to Segunda División club CD Eldense on 8 July 2024. Ceuta retained 40% of any future sale in the deal.
He made his professional debut on 1 September, featuring as a substitute in a 2–1 home defeat to FC Cartagena.
Kortrijk’s Place in Belgian Football History
KV Kortrijk has a storied past in Belgian football. The club first reached the top tier between the 1906–07 and 1910–11 seasons.
It took them another 65 years to return to the highest level, enjoying a 15-season stay in the top flight between 1976–77 and 1991–92, briefly interrupted by relegation.
They featured again in the first division during the 1998–99 season before reclaiming their place in the Belgian Pro League in 2008–09, where they have remained ever since.
Now, with the addition of Sixtus Ogbuehi, the club will be looking to strengthen its attacking options ahead of the upcoming campaign.
