The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has cautioned parents and guardians to be vigilant after operatives uncovered illicit drugs valued at over ₦5.8 billion in a mansion located in Lekki, Lagos State.
The anti-narcotics agency said the building was allegedly being used as a stash house for different types of illegal drugs, many of which were packaged in colourful designer sachets believed to be attractive to youths and teenagers.
In a statement posted on Sunday via X, the spokesperson for the agency, Femi Babafemi, said the operation was carried out over the weekend by NDLEA officers.
Babafemi said, “These are some of the items recovered from a mansion used as a stash house in Lekki, Lagos, where over ₦5.8 billion worth of illicit drugs were seized by NDLEA officers at the weekend.”
He added that the seizure had prevented the substances from reaching homes and vulnerable young people.
“That’s the much saved from getting into our homes by those targeting our children with illicit substances packaged in designer sachets like the ones in these pictures,” he stated.
The agency further advised parents to be observant and act quickly if they notice suspicious packages around their children.
“In case, you see anything like this in your wastebasket at home, seek help for your young ones at home immediately,” Babafemi warned.
NDLEA has repeatedly expressed concern over the increasing trend of drug traffickers disguising narcotics as sweets, snacks, and other consumer items to lure children and teenagers into substance abuse.
