Man City draw Everton, lose grip on EPL title race

Everton and Manchester City played out a breathless 3-3 thriller that kept City’s Premier League title hopes alive until the very end.

City were largely in control in the first half and eventually broke through in the 43rd minute when Jeremy Doku produced a brilliant left-footed finish from the edge of the box, bending the ball just inside the far post beyond Jordan Pickford.

Everton, however, roared back after the break. Substitute Thierno Barry levelled in the 68th minute after a costly defensive mistake from Marc Guéhi, who misjudged a back pass and gifted possession inside the area.

Just five minutes later, the Toffees stunned the visitors by taking the lead, with Jake O’Brien rising highest to head home from a James Garner corner.

The underdogs looked in full control when they struck again in the 81st minute, as Merlin Rohl slipped the ball across for Barry to tap into an empty net and make it 3-1.

But City refused to collapse. Erling Haaland quickly reduced the deficit, bursting through the middle to score a vital second for the visitors.

Then, deep into stoppage time, Doku struck again in spectacular fashion, mirroring his earlier goal from the opposite flank, to rescue a dramatic point for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Earlier, Guardiola had turned to Nico Kovacic, barely featuring over the past year, and Phil Foden, who has been struggling for form, as City pushed desperately to salvage both the match and their fading title charge.

Everton’s earlier setback seemed to rattle City, but the hosts still punished them again from a set piece.

After another defensive scramble involving Ndiaye, James Garner’s corner found O’Brien, who powered a header home.

Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma reacted furiously and confronted the referee, earning yet another booking in what has been a turbulent season for him.
