Lille beat Troyes 2-0 to take Ligue 1 lead

Lille moved to the top of the Ligue 1 table on Sunday after defeating newly promoted Troyes 2-0 at home.

The victory saw Davide Ancelotti’s side end a four-match winless run on home soil and move level on points with Monaco and Rennes at the summit.

Lille thought they had taken the lead just two minutes into the game when Hakor Arnar Haraldsson converted after Dilane Bakwa’s effort struck the post.

However, the goal was ruled out by VAR for offside.

The hosts continued to dominate possession and were eventually rewarded when full-back Tiago Santos broke the deadlock with a stunning effort.

The defender collected Bakwa’s pass outside the Troyes box before curling the ball beyond goalkeeper Patrick Beach and into the left corner.

Troyes struggled to create opportunities in the first half, managing four shots, all of which were off target, as Lille maintained control of the contest.

The visitors improved after the interval and threatened down the left through Anis Ouzenadji, but Lille absorbed the pressure.

Ancelotti responded by introducing Olivier Giroud, Gaetan Perrin and Ethan Mbappe in an attempt to strengthen his attack.

Mbappe eventually sealed the victory in the 93rd minute, scoring his first goal of the season to ensure Lille secured their first home win of the campaign.

The result also marked a positive response from Lille following their midweek Champions League defeat to Real Betis.
