Ligue 1: Toulouse hold Monaco, dent UCL hopes

Monaco saw their UEFA Champions League ambitions take a major hit after being forced to settle for a dramatic 2-2 draw against Toulouse in Ligue 1.

The visitors started with real intensity, immediately putting Toulouse under pressure.

Inside the opening five minutes, Maghnes Akliouche tested Guillaume Restes with a powerful effort that was brilliantly pushed over the bar.

However, Monaco quickly made their dominance count, as Jordan Teze rose highest to head home a pinpoint cross from Simon Adingra, opening his account for the season.

Monaco continued to threaten, with Adingra himself coming close to doubling the lead, only to be denied again by an alert Restes.

Their second goal soon followed in emphatic fashion, as Lamine Camara produced a stunning strike into the top corner in the 18th minute to give the visitors full control.

Despite struggling to find rhythm, Toulouse had a golden opportunity to respond midway through the first half, but Jacen Russell-Rowe failed to hit the target from a promising position.

The game remained relatively subdued after the break until just past the hour mark, when Toulouse found a way back into the contest.

A perfectly weighted pass from Dayann Methalie picked out Russell-Rowe, who made no mistake this time, firing past Lukas Hradecky to reduce the deficit.

Monaco looked set to hold on, but late drama unfolded in stoppage time. Emersonn capitalised on a loose moment in the box to slot home a last-gasp equaliser, sparking wild celebrations among the home supporters.

The result leaves Monaco in seventh place, now trailing fourth-placed Lille by three points as the race for European qualification tightens.

Toulouse, meanwhile, climb to 10th and end their three-match losing streak in the league.
