Lyon’s remarkable 13-game winning streak across all competitions came to an end as they were beaten 3-1 by Strasbourg at the Stade de la Meinau.
Strasbourg, looking to snap a three-game winless run in Ligue 1, dominated early proceedings.
Within the first 10 minutes, the hosts had a golden double-chance: Joaquín Panichelli’s header was brilliantly saved by Dominik Greif, and Martial Godo fired over from close range on the rebound.
Panichelli’s follow-up effort was also denied, but Strasbourg finally broke through just before halftime when Godo tapped in Diego Moreira’s exquisite chipped pass.
At the break, Strasbourg fully deserved their lead, having stifled Lyon’s attacking threat throughout the first half.
The second half continued in a similar pattern. Greif, Lyon’s standout performer, made a crucial stop to deny Moreira, but the winger soon found the net with a long-range strike that deflected off Tanner Tessmann, leaving the goalkeeper stranded.
Lyon pulled one back late through Corentin Tolisso, whose deft control and volley from their first shot on target beat Mike Penders in goal.
However, Strasbourg restored their two-goal advantage when they were awarded a penalty after VAR judged Clinton Mata to have fouled Samir El Mourabet. Panichelli calmly converted from the spot, sending Greif the wrong way to seal the 3-1 victory.
The win keeps Strasbourg in contention for European football next season and maintains their impressive home form, with just one defeat in their last seven outings across all competitions.
For Lyon, the loss not only ended their winning streak but also significantly dampened their hopes of claiming the Ligue 1 title this season.
