Ligue 1: Paris FC shock PSG 2-1 in comeback win

Substitute Alimami Gory struck twice late on, including a dramatic stoppage-time winner, as Paris FC fought back to stun Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain 2-1 in a thrilling derby clash.

Fresh from clinching their 14th French top-flight crown with victory over Lens in midweek, PSG were presented with the Ligue 1 trophy before kick-off.

Head coach Luis Enrique rotated his squad with five changes, handing 19-year-old defender Dimitri Lucea his first senior start.

Despite the changes, the visitors began brightly, with Bradley Barcola forcing former PSG goalkeeper Kevin Trapp into an early save just two minutes in.

Paris FC, however, quickly settled and carved out several promising chances. Matvey Safonov had to rush off his line to deny Willem Geubbels before producing another fine stop to keep out a powerful effort from Moses Simon. Geubbels then dragged wide after Lucea failed to clear his lines.

PSG were dealt another concern in the 27th minute when Ousmane Dembélé was withdrawn as a precaution because of a suspected muscle issue, raising fears over his availability for the UEFA Champions League final against Arsenal on May 30.

The hosts continued to trouble the champions, with Jonathan Ikoné curling narrowly over the crossbar late in the first half after cutting inside from the right flank.

Their missed opportunities proved costly shortly after the break. Five minutes into the second half, Barcola arrived at the back post to convert Fabián Ruiz’s cross and put PSG ahead, taking his Ligue 1 tally to 11 goals for the season and moving ahead of Dembélé as the club’s top scorer in the league.

However, PSG failed to kill off the contest, and Paris FC found a deserved route back into the game in the 76th minute. Just nine minutes after coming off the bench, Gory turned Pierre Lees-Melou’s dangerous cross-shot beyond Safonov to level the scores.

João Neves went close to restoring PSG’s lead when he curled an effort over the bar, but the final word belonged to the hosts. Deep into stoppage time, Ilan Kebbal raced clear on the counterattack before squaring for Gory, who calmly tapped into an empty net to complete a remarkable comeback.

The victory marked another memorable moment for Paris FC boss Antoine Kombouaré, who was dismissed by PSG in 2011, as his side secured successive wins over their city rivals following January’s Coupe de France triumph.

It also capped an outstanding return season to Ligue 1 for Paris FC after 46 years away from the top flight, with their 11th-place finish the best in the club’s history.

For PSG, meanwhile, the defeat ended an eight-match unbeaten away run in all competitions and served as an untimely setback ahead of their Champions League final showdown with Arsenal.
