AS Monaco made a resounding statement at the Stade Louis II, dismantling Rennes 4-0 in a performance that ended their five-match winless streak in Ligue 1.
From the first whistle, Monaco imposed themselves, moving the ball with purpose, pressing aggressively, and constantly probing Rennes’ defense.
The visitors struggled to find any rhythm under the Principality side’s relentless intensity.
The first glimpse of Monaco’s threat came from Denis Zakaria, whose powerful strike rattled the post after a slick interplay with Aleksandr Golovin. It was clear a breakthrough was only a matter of time.
That moment arrived in the 33rd minute. Folarin Balogun delivered a perfectly weighted pass into the box, and Ansu Fati, exuding confidence, slotted the ball calmly between Brice Samba’s legs to open the scoring.
Monaco’s dominance was evident in every department—solid in defense, composed in midfield, and creative up front—leaving Rennes largely powerless.
The second half saw Monaco hit the ground running. Just five minutes after the restart, Maghnes Akliouche capitalized on a fortunate rebound, tapping the ball into an empty net to double the advantage.
Monaco continued to control the match, and on the hour, Soungoutou Magassa Coulibaly raced onto a clever pass from Biereth and fired low past Samba to make it 3-0, effectively putting the contest out of reach.
Rennes thought they had pulled one back, only for VAR to intervene and rule it out for offside, crushing any hope of a comeback.
The Principality side added a final flourish in the 89th minute. Idumbo met a cross from the right, and though his finish lacked precision, it was enough to beat Samba and seal a commanding 4-0 victory.
The win lifts Monaco to 27 points and 10th place, injecting much-needed confidence as the season reaches a critical stage.
Rennes, meanwhile, remain sixth on 31 points and have now gone three consecutive league matches without a win, increasing the pressure on their European ambitions.
A dominant, comprehensive performance from AS Monaco, showing their teeth exactly when it mattered most.
