Olivier Giroud struck twice as Lille battled back from an early setback to claim a 4-2 victory over Paris FC on Sunday, a result that lifted them into fourth place in Ligue 1.
Paris FC stunned the home side in the 11th minute when Willem Geubbels reacted fastest after Vincent Marchetti’s deflected shot clipped the post.
Lille gradually settled, and Giroud pulled them level five minutes before halftime, finishing off a brilliant solo run from Osame Sahraoui, who weaved past several defenders to create the chance.
Giroud nearly completed a quickfire brace moments later, but Kevin Trapp produced a superb save to block his close-range attempt.
The pressure eventually told in the second half as Lille surged forward relentlessly.
Giroud finally doubled his tally from the penalty spot in the 77th minute after Marchetti conceded the foul.
The Paris FC midfielder endured a miserable evening, accidentally setting up Lille’s third goal when his attempted clearance from a corner fell perfectly for Aissa Mandi to stab home in the 80th minute.
Substitute Lohann Doucet briefly reignited hope for the visitors with an 84th-minute strike, but Marius Broholm ended any suspense by converting another penalty deep into stoppage time to secure Lille’s comeback win.
