Lagos govt begins school monitoring for compliance

The Lagos State Government has commenced the monitoring of schools across the state to ensure compliance with approved standards and the 2025/2026 harmonised academic calendar.

The exercise, which began on Monday, is being coordinated by the Office of Education Quality Assurance.

The inspection covers both public and private schools below the tertiary level.

Speaking during the monitoring visit to Dolphin Senior High School, Lagos Island, the Coordinating Director of OEQA, Mrs. Remi Abdul, said the move was aimed at ensuring a smooth take-off of the new session.

“We are here to confirm that schools resumed on the approved date and that all the necessary teaching and statutory records are in place. It is also important to ensure that school administrators held their pre-resumption meetings to prepare adequately for the term,” Abdul stated.

She added that inspectors were checking lesson notes, teachers’ diaries, and attendance registers to verify readiness.

While addressing Senior Secondary School 3 students, Abdul encouraged them to take their studies seriously ahead of external examinations.

“How you perform this term will determine your transition to higher institutions. Stay focused, read well, and avoid skipping classes. Begin early preparations for your WASSCE,” she urged.

The first half of the term runs until October 31, while the second half is scheduled from November 10 to December 19.
