La Liga: Mbappe scores brace as Real Madrid thrash Las Pamas 4-1

Kylian Mbappe delivered a masterclass performance, netting twice as Real Madrid rallied to a 4-1 triumph over Las Palmas at the Santiago Bernabéu on Sunday.

The victory propelled the reigning champions to the summit of the LaLiga standings.

Real Madrid overtook Atletico Madrid, who suffered a shock 1-0 defeat against struggling Leganes on Saturday.

The win puts Real on 46 points, two ahead of their city rivals, while third-placed Barcelona fell further behind, now seven points adrift after a 1-1 draw with Getafe.

Carlo Ancelotti’s men were caught off guard when Las Palmas struck early, with Fabio Silva converting a Sandro cross just 25 seconds into the game. However, the hosts soon found their rhythm.

Mbappe leveled the score in the 18th minute, converting a penalty awarded after Rodrygo was brought down in the box.

Brahim Diaz put Real ahead in the 33rd minute, and three minutes later, Mbappe added a stunning first-time finish into the top corner from a Rodrygo assist.

The Brazilian rounded off a swift counterattack in the 57th minute to seal the fourth goal for Madrid.

Las Palmas’ hopes of a comeback dimmed further in the 64th minute when substitute Benito Ramirez was shown a straight red card for a reckless studs-up challenge on Lucas Vazquez.
