La Liga: Lewandowski receives emotional farewell as Barcelona beat Real Betis

Barcelona striker, Robert Lewandowski, received an emotional farewell from the club’s home supporters as the LaLiga champions defeated Real Betis 3–1 at the Camp Nou, with Raphinha delivering a standout performance by scoring twice.

The Brazilian winger struck a brace, while João Cancelo added a third as Barcelona secured a victory that also capped a historic league campaign, becoming the first side in LaLiga history to complete a 38-game season with a perfect home record—19 wins from 19 matches.

The evening, however, was largely shaped by the farewell to Lewandowski, who played 85 minutes as captain in what turned out to be his final home appearance for the club after confirming he will leave at the end of the season.

The Polish striker was given a standing ovation and appeared visibly emotional as he waved goodbye to the fans.

Barcelona dominated the first half, creating several early chances. Raphinha was twice denied by Álvaro Valles, while Fermín López went close when he struck the side netting from a promising position.

The breakthrough eventually arrived in the 28th minute when Raphinha curled a brilliant free-kick around the wall into the bottom corner after being fouled by Junior Firpo.

Valles continued to frustrate Barcelona, keeping out López again before the break, while Real Betis struggled to create clear chances, with Sofyan Amrabat missing a rare opening late in the half.

The visitors briefly threatened a comeback after the interval when a poor pass from Héctor Bellerín gifted Raphinha his second goal of the night, a low finish into the corner.

Betis responded in the 69th minute as Isco won and converted a penalty after being brought down by Gavi.

Antony came close to levelling with a curling effort from distance, but Barcelona restored control soon after when Cancelo produced a fine finish into the bottom corner in the 74th minute.

Lewandowski’s final touch at home saw him blaze a shot over the bar before he was substituted to a rousing ovation, with the forward in tears as he acknowledged the crowd.

The win also reinforced Barcelona’s remarkable home form, having now scored direct free-kicks in back-to-back La Liga home matches for the first time since Opta records began in 2003–04.

It also marked the first perfect home league season since Real Madrid achieved the feat in 1985–86, though in a shorter campaign of 17 matches.

Lewandowski finished the match with just one shot and 0.19 expected goals, part of Barcelona’s overall 1.06 xG from 13 attempts, while Betis produced 0.93 xG from seven shots, heavily influenced by Isco’s penalty.
